What does the term ';False Flag Attack'; mean?

I'm being serious, I've seen this term used on this page but I don't know what it means. What does the term ';False Flag Attack'; mean?
It is a clever term invented by the un-clever liberal conspiracy theorists; it means an attack carried out by one faction (or country) under the flag of another faction (or country). What does the term ';False Flag Attack'; mean?
It is a long standing strategy.

It means that if a country has an enemy it wants to attack, it then stages an attack, as if it were done by the enemy, and pretends it was the ';enemy';.

There are lots of historical examples, for instance when the Reichstag (the German parliament) was burned down, Hitler blamed it on communists, and other social malcontents, he used that as an excuse to bring in the ';Enabling Act';, which gave him more power, to act as a dictator.

Another examle is the Gulf of Tonkin incident: The US government pretended that the North Vietnamese had attacked one of its ships, and used it as an excuse to go to war in Vietnam. It has only recently become known, as records have been released, and the foreign secretary at the time McNamara has admitted it. I'm surprised that wasn't bigger news.

Many people believe that the attacks of 9/11 were a false flag operation, to give the US an excuse to invade just about anyone. It also gave the Government more power, with a path cleared to introduce the Patriot Act, which is the US equivalent of Hitler's Enabling Act.

After a false flag attack, usually the government starts using the word Homeland, just as Hitler did (heimland)after the Reichstag fire, to stir up patriotic feeling.
False flag operations/attacks are covert operations conducted by governments, corporations, or other organizations, which are designed to appear as though they are being carried out by other entities. The name is derived from the military concept of flying false colors; that is, flying the flag of a country other than one's own. False flag operations are not limited to war and counter-insurgency operations, and have been used in peace-time; for example, during Italy's strategy of tension.

';False flag terrorism'; occurs when elements within a government stage a secret operation whereby government forces pretend to be a targeted enemy while attacking their own forces or people. The attack is then falsely blamed on the enemy in order to justify going to war against that enemy.

I think it means that the military is being sent on a mission thinking that it is just an exercise then someone suprises them with,';no seriously! This is real world, folks! Go do it!'; Those planes that could have defended those people who died on 9/11 were distracted on purpose! I don't know why! There wasn't even an intercept. They were on their own. I guess it's possible that their location was hidden by a radar scrambler from another plane.
It means an attack to make you think it was something but is really something else to make you go and do something.

9/11 conspiracy morons use that term all the time.
Like in ww2 the germans would send english speaking troops dressed in american uniforms to say hi guys well we surrendered war is over lets go home. Things like that.
