Is the American voter easily manipulated and deceived by slogans and false promises?

Yes, of course, they are--because they don't take the time to educate themselves, outside the slanted television news, on the real policies of the candidates, their advisers, and financial supporters. Is the American voter easily manipulated and deceived by slogans and false promises?
Applause for nose-blowing? Apparently so.Is the American voter easily manipulated and deceived by slogans and false promises?
I think that the general public can see through some slogans and false promises but maybe not enough.
2 terms of Bush. You tell me.
If the last democratic, congressional landslide victory is any indication, yes, they were duped and manipulated and basically mesmerized by the false promises.
If they are liberal... the answer is YES.
No way that cant be true.

Every president has made promises that they didnt fullfill, but maybe that is because the presidency is only the face of the government while congress is the trigger finger.
Many of them are, they're called Obama supporters.
Obviously. Otherwise we wouldn't be where we are today.
yes they are. listen to what Obama spews out
Yes.
Thats how we ended up with GWB twice.
well aren't alot of voters manipulated ? is this anything new ?
We have the ';don't ask, don't tell'; voters in this country. People don't pay attention to any details. They don't wonder how things will be paid for. They don't even wonder if the candidate has the power to deliver on promises. They tend to be completely ignorant of the balance of powers. So, any slick talking candidate with charisma can fool the majority, for a period of time.
This is apparently so so so True! Just how many people

these days are dumber then a box of rocks it seems.
Absolutely. That's one reason so few citizens actually vote - they have a moral imperative not to choose ';the lesser evil';, since it's still evil.

I voted in the primary, for the first time in my life. It only had to do with voting for a local issue that saved my wife's life - local ambulance service. The next presidency will be almost completely irrelevant, since congress has more than 1/3 of the power in our nation, and cannot be changed quickly enought to end it's EVIL.

Let's say Obama wins. Great. What can he change? He can provide a rallying point, sure. He can give excellent, empassioned speeches prepared for him by lobbyists posing as speechwriters. Fine. Maybe he can be a whistleblower for some of the pork that's giving our nation a heart attack. That's his BEST possible function for change.

The worst part is, he's our best option - the others will simply let things go as they are, with some small figurehead modifications.

The next president will struggle with the fall of our economy, no matter whom, and no matter what they feebly ';try'; to do.
Not all of us are, but unfortunately it does seem that a good number are. Gray wolf is absolutely correct. *sm*
You bet they are. It's because of their lack of civic education and lack of education in general. We send our kids to school but they aren't learning American philosophy there. They're being indoctrinated into the socialist view because the NEA is run by socialists and that is what they want them to learn. Revisionist history is poison.
Yes, the average American is. Time for a revolution.
Most yes...Does anybody remember the late 80's? ';Read my lips, no new taxes';?

Who's been a big enough bone head to say that lately?
The frenzy surrounding Obama provides an answer for you. He is good looking, poised, articulate, charismatic, and enjoys a following among young people unlike anything seen in American politics in decades......and he has nothing to say. He has no ideas, no understanding of international relations, is a junior senator who has never held a position of leadership, and yet he may well be our next President. He provides an entirely new definition of shallow politics.
Pretty much yeah
look how well republicans use fear
We used to be. Now with internet and cell phone acces 24/7. I know what they exactly they say and what they dont say.

This election everyone will stick to the facts, If they dont, I'll email everyone I know with audio and video of the discrepancies!!!! Its best the the politicians stick to the issues and THE TRUTH!!!!!
The American voter is in sleep mode right now--PLEASE DO NOT DISTURB!!!

Sound bites are now the way of elections; there is no substance anymore and the corporate/entertainment media wants to keep it that way. Dennis Kucinich tried to talk issues and substance and stand for the American people and look where it got HIM?!

This country is doomed to destroy itself. That is unless the people pull down their own personal DO NOT DISTURB signs and WAKE UP!!!
I am going to go out on a limb here and say.... yes!
Of course...that's why there are still marketing scams.

If they didn't work, they would have died out decades agao and we'd be laughing about it now on VH1's ';I Love the 80's';
Yes, but mostly High Schoolers and College kids that want everything for free....
more easily by hate rehtoric and fear mongering...

but ...yes and yes.
Every time I see a BOGO commercial I want shoes...so to some extent I think yes.
The Democrat Liberal base, no. The Republican Conservative base, no. The Moderates and Independents resoundingly yes! People who pay no attention to politics until election time, yes! People who do not understand how government works, yes! People who get their information from Internet blogs, yes! People who claim to take a position yet when pressed about it cannot defend it, yes!

If you have profound core beliefs you are not easily swayed. If you do not stand for something, you will fall for anything. Our government functions best without moderates screwing up the works. I wish I had a dollar for every Moderate who voted for the wrong candidate only later to lament that he/she was deceived. Fool me once....but they never seem to learn.
