True or False: An American can be born anywhere on the planet as long as one parent is an American?

Anywhere that is considered a U.S. Territory. That includes military bases and hospitals (John McCain) Or a person born in Puerto Rico, Guam, etc can (but unlikely)True or False: An American can be born anywhere on the planet as long as one parent is an American?
False. At least one parent must have been a resident of the United States prior to the birth of said child. Thus, two children born of parents while overseas who have never lived in the United States can have a baby who is NOT an American citizen, even though they both are.

';...classified as citizens at birth, including all persons born outside of the United States and its outlying possessions of parents both of whom are citizens of the United States and one of whom has had a residence in the United States or one of its outlying possessions, prior to the birth of such person[s].';True or False: An American can be born anywhere on the planet as long as one parent is an American?
True as long as one of the parents holds a US passport and citizenship the child can legally be declared and registered at the local embassy and hold a US citizenship.

I read the first answer and yes if you are referring to the presidency the law is very explicit as to the candidate having to be born on American soil and that means the US continental along with any location deemed US soil around the world at the time of the candidate birth.
A president MUST be born on U.S. soil, regardless of whether one or the other parent is a U.S. citizen. Sorry libs, I didn't make the rules!

LPL is correct. And McCain being born in Panama? yes, he was, and to military personnel. When babies are born out of the U.S. to military personnel, they are U.S. citizens, automatically.
True. The Constitution requires a person be 'Natural Born'. The Definition of 'Natural Born' is set in law and that includes any one born on US soil regardless of their parents citizenship and includes anyone born to a US citizen regardless of their place of birth.
It's not automatic - in Mexico, if a child is born on Mexican soil to a Mexican mother and American father, the father must submit an application for citizenship for the child. It must be proven that he is the father and blood tests/DNA may be required.
running for office of the president is another matter

the law states that a president must be a natural born american

sure mccain is ineligible, but obama's mom was only 17 when he was born so she can't transmit citizenship at the time of his birth.
Doesn't matter. When dealing with Presidential eligibility, a candidate must have been born on US soil.
FALSE, My children where born outside the US and one of the very first thing they told us was that they will not be able to run for president. Both parents US Citizen on active duty.
Only if born on an American base by active duty American military personnel.
